I run a medical practice with a staff of about 100 people. More than half of them exist for one reason: to help us get paid. Billing, coding, insurance appeals, collections — an entire operation built around the simple act of getting compensated for care we’ve already delivered.

It’s not just a professional frustration. Over the last two years, my girlfriend’s and my own out-of-pocket healthcare costs have climbed sharply, and every time a bill shows up, I find myself asking the same questions: Is my insurance even covering anything? Are they just making up the number? How are they getting away with this?

I got charged $700 for an X-ray. In my own practice, we get paid $70 for that exact same scan. I paid $271.01 out of pocket just to sit down with a gastroenterologist. $228.32 to see a dermatologist. These are routine visits — and there’s no way to know what any of it will cost until the bill shows up.

Here’s what I know from the other side of the desk: doctors would happily accept a lower rate if it meant getting paid directly, without the staff and hurdles required to collect from insurance. Cutting out that complexity isn’t just good for patients — it’s good for practices too.

Baseline Fitness Certification LLC will not link IP addresses to personally identifiable information, except when you register your IP Address as the authentication token when accessing our web services.

How You Can Access, Change or Delete Your Information

In addition, if you prefer not to receive information from us, either through e-mail, postal mail or phone, please let us know by sending us an email. Please note that it may take up to two weeks for your request to become effective. Thereafter, when you make purchases, we may still send you an e-mail confirmation and may need to contact you by phone, postal mail or e-mail if we have questions regarding your order.

General Browsing

Baseline Health Network gathers navigational information about where visitors go on our web site and information about the technical efficiencies of our web site (such as time to connect to our web site, time to download pages). This information allows us to see which area of Baseline Health Network most visited and helps us to better design our website. This information helps us to improve the quality of our visitors' online shopping experiences by recognizing and delivering more of the features, services and products our visitors prefer. In the process of gathering navigational information, non-personally identifiable information (i.e. browser version, service provider, domain type and IP address) may be collected.
